How to Stop Procrastination — 5-Step Blueprint (Video Transcript)
This transcript accompanies the PluginMind Academy video “How to Stop Procrastination.”
In this video, Nikita Pilgun explains the procrastination cycle, the role of the ego, and a practical five-step blueprint to regain discipline, take responsibility, and take consistent action in your life.
Introduction: Why This Blueprint Works
Hi, my name is Nikita Pilgun, and today I will share with you my five-step blueprint that I personally use to get unstuck and make sure I’m taking action on what I know is important for me in both the short term and the long term.
First, I will talk about the cycle of procrastination and how to get out of the loop of self-loathing and disappointment with yourself. I will also explain the role of the ego—what it does to protect us and how it can support us as we navigate life.
This five-step blueprint works every single time because there is no room for failure. I know that’s a big statement, so please stay with me.
By the end of this video, you will understand how to regain your power, direct the ego instead of being controlled by it, and take action on what you already know you need to do.
Why Do We Procrastinate?
There are many reasons why we procrastinate.
Procrastination often shows up as a lack of motivation, no interest, no zest for life, or no willingness to change aspects of your life. We may feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or even depressed, and at the root of it all is fear.
Fear of failure.
Fear of success.
Fear of making a decision.
Fear of being judged.
All of this prevents us from doing what we truly need to do for ourselves, which is to make a choice in our favor.
The Cycle of Procrastination Explained
When you have a task in front of you that requires a decision—either yes, I will do it or no, I will not—you have two options.
Option one: accept responsibility and complete the task.
Option two: reject responsibility and find safety in non-action.
When we reject responsibility, we temporarily feel relief. The pressure seems to lift. But if the task still needs to be done, tension builds because the issue remains unresolved.
As tension and stress increase, dissatisfaction with ourselves grows. With every minute of non-action, it becomes harder to decide—and easier to stay stuck in the cycle.
At some point, you reach a split where you must decide: continue digging the hole deeper, or accept responsibility and put energy into solving the problem.
Getting out of the cycle requires a small but deliberate decision in your favor.
The Role of the Ego in Procrastination
The ego has two main functions.
First, the ego’s job is to keep you safe.
It applies every program it has stored to protect you from discomfort.
Second, the ego’s job is to keep you happy.
Less pain, more pleasure—that’s how it’s designed.
The problem is that the ego prioritizes short-term safety and happiness, often at the expense of long-term fulfillment.
The solution is not to fight the ego, but to direct it—to teach it and give it clear expectations so that safety and happiness exist at all levels of your journey.
Think of the ego as a personal assistant that never says no—but needs very clear instructions.
The Five-Step Blueprint to Stop Procrastination
Step 1 — Decide to Redirect Your Plane
If you are alive right now, you are flying in midair.
The question is: are you flying toward your true north?
You may be perfectly aligned.
You may be 10 degrees off.
You may be 120 degrees off.
You may even be 180 degrees off—flying in the opposite direction.
That is not bad news.
Small adjustments—one degree, half a degree at a time—compound. Over time, these micro-redirections realign your entire life.
Step 2 — Take Full Responsibility for Your Actions
Taking responsibility is not easy, but it is unavoidable.
No one chooses your food for you.
No one exercises for you.
No one can make your life decisions for you.
At the end of the day, you are responsible.
You have three options:
Do nothing and stay where you are
Pay someone to fix your problems temporarily
Manipulate others to get what you want
Only one option truly works long term: taking full responsibility for your life and decisions.
Step 3 — Learn to Make Binary Decisions
Life requires thousands of decisions every day.
The most important ones are binary decisions—yes or no, A or B.
Being comfortable with these decisions requires practice and responsibility.
For example, choosing to rest instead of meeting a friend when you know you need recovery is not selfish. It is self-respect.
True alignment comes from making decisions that serve your well-being, even when they feel uncomfortable.
Step 4 — Make Ego Your Business Partner
Think of yourself as a business or corporation.
You are the CEO.
The ego is your partner.
Together, you manage all departments: health, energy, work, relationships, rest.
For a healthy bottom line, you need clear communication, clear roles, and clear expectations.
When ego and you work together, discipline becomes sustainable.
Step 5 — Take Action and Maintain the Streak
This is where action happens.
Sometimes action means a dramatic decision.
Sometimes it means a small adjustment.
To support this, I use a three-level action system, based on intensity. You can negotiate with your ego—go all in, or take it easy—but you must take some action.
The goal is not perfection.
The goal is consistent redirection.
Summary: The Five-Step Blueprint to Stop Procrastination
Decide to redirect your life’s direction
Take full responsibility for your actions
Practice making clear binary decisions
Work with your ego instead of against it
Take consistent action and maintain the streak

This PluginMind Blueprint gives you a clear pathway — 5 steps you can use today to regain your momentum and take action.
What is Causing You to Not Take Action?
There are many reasons why we remain paralized and unable to take action but the core underlying reason is FEAR! Some of them are:
- Fear of judgment
- Fear of failure
- Fear of success
- Fear of feeling negative emotions
- Fear of not being in control
- Fear of the future etc.
The symptoms of fear can manifest as:
- No motivation
- No interest
- No zest for life
- No energy
- Feeling overwhelmed
- Constant overthinking
- Starting but never finishing
This leads to a cycle of procrastinaton that is getting more difficult to break with time…
The Role of Ego
The ego, is that voice you hear and it is always with us. As long as you have the body – the ego is there to help run it! The role of the ego is two-fold.
1: To Keep You Safe.
Your survival and well-being are direct responsibility of the ego and it will do whatever it believes to be right to achieve that. If there is a stressful situation i.e. having an important conversation, making a difficult decision, potentially being uncomfortable etc., the ego will choose avoidance because it removes the immediate stress associated with making a decision. Every decision is a commitment to a change, a small redirection of your path forward.
2: To Keep You Happy.
The feeling of unhappiness causes tension and the ego is attempting to resolve it by any and all means available to it – distraction, misinterpretation of facts in your favor or indecision.
Indecision is a mechanism where the ego postpones or delays an action necessary because it causes a shift away from predictability and certainty. If left unchecked for a long time, it ultimately leads to procrastination. Now, you don’t need to take any action, which is the simplest option, yet it ultimately results in an unwanted behavior – avoidance, procrastination and guilt.
The excellent news is that procrastination is a manifesting behavior to pay attention! It stems directly from a need to make a decision, which we do not want to take the responsibility for and experience discomfort.
The truth is that we are required to make thousands of small decisions daily and decision making is an unavoidable fact of our existence. Small decision that take us away from we don’t want to what we do want are required and necessary. Next, we will shift our perspective slightly and consider a scenario that is unavoidable for every human being.
Just Before Your Last Breath: The Ultimate Perspective!
Death is an unavoidable part of our existence and every single person has gone and will go through this experience whenever that day comes.
Let’s consider this mental exercise.
Imagine that you take your last inhale in this body and you know that when you exhale and fully relax. Imagine how would you feel in that moment… Are there any regrets, are there things unsaid you know should have been done?
I imagine that the feeling of regret and sadness about realizing that you could have loved more, could have been more honest, true to yourself and what you know is right!
If you don’t like the relationship you are currently in – terminate it. If you don’t like the job you do – quit it. If you don’t like the body you occupy – well, you have the power to change that today.
Not tomorrow – today!
The best part is that you do not need to ask permission. You can take full responsibility and make the choice in your favor!
Here is the PluginMind’s 5-Step Blueprint to stop procrastination once and for all.
Your Success is Unavoidable!
STEP 1.
Decide to Redirect Your Plane
If you woke up this morning, imagine that you are in mid-air, flying your plane high above the clouds. You have your hands on the instrument panel, free to make decisions and adjustments to your flight path. Now, you can ask this question – where am I flying? Do I like the direction where my plane is going? I will arrive there if I do nothing and simply stay the course. If the answer is YES – excellent! You are on track and simply need to maintain the direction.
However, if you find yourself flying 20, 50, 100 degrees off course and you do not like the direction of travel – right now is the time to adjust it. Even if you are flying 180 degrees off course, that is still good news. Now there is no ambiguity about where the airport is – it is completely in the wrong direction. All we need to do is adjust and course-correct by very small amounts – 1 degree, 2 degrees, or even half of a degree at a time in order to fly in a better direction.
STEP 2.
Take Full Responsibility for Your Life’s Direction
If I am the one living this life and I want to experience the best life possible, for me, unselfishly – can I outsource this responsibility to another person? Does anyone other than me know what I really want in this life? The answer, of course, is no – only you really know, and it is essential to assume full responsibility for living your life the way you want, not what other people want from you.
STEP 3.
Become Comfortable Making Binary Decisions
Since we make thousands of decisions per day, many of these decisions will be incorrect. Yes/no decisions are simple, binary actions that we make thousands of times per day. It is simply impossible to make only the right decisions, so making mistakes is OK and even necessary to understand in retrospect that it was a mistake. Otherwise, we would not know what the right decision is – it is only evident by comparison.
So, have I been making decisions that take me away from my true north? What can I do to increase the proportion of decisions and adjust the flight path according to where I really want to fly? Now, I need to become comfortable making decisions and not outsource this responsibility to anyone else, even my own ego. Make ego your co-pilot, and with every micro correction, you are coming closer to your true north!
STEP 4.
Make EGO Your Business Partner
Imagine that you are running a business, a corporation where a healthy bottom line depends on clear communication, timely execution of projects, and meeting deadlines. Moreover, clear communication and expectations, trust, and responsibility must be taken on by every employee.
In your business, you have a partner that fulfills every role in the company – the driver, delivery personnel, secretary, CEO, CFO, manufacturing, etc. Every aspect of your company must run efficiently, and adjustments need to be made wherever productivity drops. So, clear communication, anticipation of potential problems, and consequences must be in place in order for the business to run smoothly and profitably. The ego can do every job, but it needs clear direction and daily responsibility.
STEP 5.
Maintain the Streak of Success
This is a very simple but important part. How often should I expect the company to run its daily activities according to my expectations? It is every day the company is in business! Do we skip a day living? Of course not, so the answer is every single day!
This takes the guesswork out of the frequency of effort and sets a clear standard and expectation – we course-correct and invest in our body, mind, and relationship with our ego daily.
